It has been a busy and exciting time in our classroom, with lots of opportunities to explore new ideas, develop our skills and share our learning with one another!

In Maths, the children have been developing their understanding of numbers up to 1,000,000. They have been using place value charts, counters and number lines to help us recognise the value of each digit and understand how large numbers are built. The children have enjoyed finding different ways to represent numbers and explaining our mathematical thinking.

In English, we have been inspired by Kensuke’s Kingdom. The children have enjoyed exploring the characters, setting and events in the story before using our ideas to write informal letters. We have been thinking carefully about how to write in a friendly, personal style, including sharing thoughts, feelings and experiences.

Our Science, learning has taken us beyond Earth as we have been exploring the Solar System! We have been using books from our school library, class book corner as well as internet resources to research the planets and discover fascinating facts about our place in space. They have been developing their research skills and learning how to find, record and share useful information.

In Art, the children have been enjoying finding out more about author and illustrator Peter Thorpe, researching his work and learning about his creative style. We will be using his work as inspiration to create our own pictures.

In History, we have travelled back in time to learn about the Anglo-Saxons. We have been discovering who they were, where they came from and, importantly, why they settled in England. We have been exploring the reasons people migrated and how Anglo-Saxon settlement changed life in Britain.
